Clément COGITORE

Clément Cogitore is a French contemporary artist and filmmaker born in 1983 in Colmar, France. He lives and works between Paris and Berlin. After studying at Le Fresnoy – Studio national des arts contemporains, Cogitore developed a multidisciplinary practice at the intersection of cinema and contemporary art, combining film, video, photography, and installation.

His work explores themes such as ritual, collective memory, spirituality, the circulation of images, and the relationship between reality and fiction. Through immersive visual narratives, Cogitore investigates how contemporary societies construct myths, beliefs, and representations. His artistic language often blends documentary aesthetics with cinematic and symbolic dimensions.

Cogitore’s works have been exhibited internationally in major institutions including the Centre Pompidou, Palais de Tokyo, MoMA in New York, ICA London, Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin, and numerous biennials worldwide. Alongside his visual art practice, he has gained international recognition as a filmmaker. His first feature film, Neither Heaven Nor Earth, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2015 and received critical acclaim. His second feature film, Goutte d'Or, was presented at Cannes Critics’ Week in 2022.

In 2018, he received the prestigious Prix Marcel Duchamp. He also became widely known for his contemporary reinterpretation of Les Indes Galantes at the Opéra National de Paris in 2019, blending opera, krump, and urban dance. Since 2018, Clément Cogitore has taught at the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris, where he leads a film workshop.
