Bertrand LAVIER

"Art is a principle of life. What appeals to me is the thought that permeates a work, but is also the way to get there."

Bertrand Lavier is one of the most important figures of French postmodernity. His practice encompasses painting as well as sculpture. Playing with categories, codes, genres, and materials, Lavier's art evinces a penchant for addition, crossing, hybridization, and transposition. Conceptual and ludic, often considered the critical extension of Marcel Duchamp and the New Realists, Bertrand Lavier’s work humorously questions the mechanisms of value attribution that subtend the art world.
