Aurélie NEMOURS

"Art is perhaps one of the noblest human causes. A way in which we can try to express hope, progress, the endless march of man on earth. The only true and unique fact that Man has to walk. "

Aurélie Nemours is a French abstract geometric painter. Her works do not include any subject or representation, except that of the forms she shows in the place she gave them in her composition. It was from 1953 that the artist limited, almost without exception, the structure of all her works to verticals and horizontals, which is now the hallmark of her work as a whole. Squares, rectangles, complex juxtapositions, colors, and contrasts. Aurélie Nemours's painting then begins to explore pictorial space as a plane, composed of horizontalities and verticalities. Nemours wishes to "install the void", in her own words. The outcome of this rigorous production nears an asceticism limited to black or gray squares and rectangles, to the work of space and matter.
