Kenny SCHARF

Painter and installation artist associated with the Lowbrow movement, Kenny Scharf is an American artist best known for his work inspired by comics and pop culture. He is one of the artists who, in the early 1980s, created a connection between the world of contemporary art and that of graffiti, such as Jean-Michel Basquiat or Keith Haring. Freely using images from popular culture (especially television), Scharf develops a cheerful and colorful work quite close to the concerns of Free Figuration. His work does not stop at graffiti, however, as Scharf also does paintings, fashion design, videos, and performances. He is also fond of portraying middle-class American families in apocalyptic science-fiction contexts.
