Christian DOTREMONT

"Let's shout harmony and sing chaos."

The Belgian painter and writer Christian Dotremont is one of the members of the surrealist group and co-founder of the CoBrA movement. The artist is particularly known for his "Logograms" in an unknown cursive script, the product of a technique in which Dotremont traces signs with the blackest India ink. His trip to Lapland in 1956 was a critical stage in his career, as the snow of Lapland gave him a blank page. Hence the birth of the logogram. His logograms are something between graphic poetry and the external abstraction of a landscape. In any case, the artist suggests "seeing" the writing rather than "reading" it.
