Philip-Lorca DICORCIA

"What medium has the stronger connection to the idea of truth than one that is supposed to be a true representation of reality?"

A member of the Boston School, Philip-Lorca diCorcia is an American photographer whose work encompasses both documentary and staged photography. His colourful, large-scale prints blend fact and fiction. His images oscillate between everyday moments and theatrical arrangements. The realistic portrayal and seemingly documentary style of his works are subverted by a very elaborate visual concept. Philip-Lorca diCorcia is a disruptive artist who questions unjust social representation, as does the photographic medium itself, situating these social façades in seedy, putrid spaces.
